My wife has been complaining of hearing the fuel pump buzzing in the tank non stop, (intermittent driving periods) since March of 2014 at around 10,000 miles. Had it checked at dealership during scheduled check up, of course it wouldn't act up at that time. I am hard of hearing and driving her crazy because I could not hear it with the engine running or while driving down the road. She kept complaining as then they did the recall for ECM flash in September of 2014, nothing changed.
Then finally I can hear it as it seems to be happening more frequently. I caught it just after engine start up in our garage, it stayed on for about a quarter of a mile of driving, then seemed normal as normal is hearing nothing. When this happens, you can obviously feel the bottom of the tank vibrating. It does seem like the engine is not hitting on all four when this occurs. It now has 17,000 on it and had it to VW last week for the noise, they don't have any experienced techs but they allow the fuel pump is loose and rattling in the tank so they are going to replace it sometime this week when it comes in. I have my doubts as to this fixing it unless there is a regulator built in the pump? It still seems to run fine on the highway.
I hope VW don't take me as an idiot, this is my fourth Tiguan and the second for my wife. I have been researching to see if anyone else had this issue, but coming up dry. I'll let you know how the new fuel pump works. Also, no codes.
