The Tiguan 2013 model year was the first year for the ELECTRONIC Emergency Brake so it takes some getting used to (I'm old school and am used to the Mechanical Yank up E Brake).
I got stuck at the Parking Lot of a Grocery Store in 100 degree heat and my car wouldn't move (Green Brake symbol came on). I called my Mechanic and he had me trying to go forward/back to no avail (even rocking the car). He believed it was either a brake caliper going out else the Electronic E-Brake unit going out. In either case, he was booked up for a week and I would have to rent a car. DAMN!!!
I was low on Cell phone battery so I couldn't call a Tow truck without charging up my Cell Phone. But, I was near a VW dealer and I thought to myself - if that puppy is top mounted, I could just take it out & bring it to the Dealer. Sure enough, it was a top loader and easily pried out but the Wiring Harness would come apart. Man, I was pissed! To come up with a plan and to get so close but failing made me ANGRY!!! So I started twisting the E-Brake module and banging it out of frustration in order to loosen the Wire Harness.
Well, I must of slammed it hard because A DIME CAME OUT OF IT THAT WAS WEDGED SIDEWAYS IN IT. I reinstalled the E-Brake, started the car and it runs fine. COVER THAT RASCAL UP WITH A BUSINESS CARD!!! I spill change in the cubby holes all of the time and one fell in it. I have read of several car accidents when people accidentally engaged the E-Brake eating take out food, sipping fancy coffee mugs, etc. For peace of mind, wrap that rascal up!!!
