Apparently the stock tensioner is faulty and VW knows it. There's a class-action suit but my VIN was not included for some reason.

Tiguan TSI

  • Automatic transmission

Volkswagen is currently under a class action lawsuit for a malfunctioning timing chain. My car is one of the listed years. Everything I read says that VW has agreed to settle on cars that are less than 10 years or 100,000 miles. My car is both less than 10 years and less than 100,000 miles. My car is currently sitting at the dealership service where it will not start. I had to have it towed there.

They say I need to replace the engine which will cost thousands of dollars. They expect me to pay for the repairs then wait to be reimbursed when the settlement is finalized. They know this is their fault or they wouldn't be settling. I should not have to pay out-of-pocket myself when they have been made aware of this problem. I have spoken three times to the Volkswagen Customer Care center and I must say they don't seem to care. They have offered no assistance whatsoever. They only told me I could file a complaint with them and with the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration).
