The Parking Brake light (P) went on while driving at 60 mph and I thought I also saw an ABS light flash. I got to my destination and immediately took the car to my local mechanic. Unfortunately, the (P) light was out once I got there and he couldn’t do a diagnostic (terrific place, they looked at it free of charge). I can’t be without a car and continued driving for the next couple of weeks, putting on about 150 miles. I have not seen the ABS light again.
The (P) light goes on and off intermittently and at unpredictable times, (i.e. when turning on the ignition (pressing the brake pedal does not release it), or not, while driving a few minutes, while driving for 30 min or more, while driving at any speed, or any combination thereof. It then goes out after about 10 minutes or so. I had to rent a car for 4 days because I had long distances to drive.
I have an appointment with my VW repair shop ($185 for a diagnostic) this week but if the light is not on when I get there, they told me they can’t do a diagnostic. There is no way I can predict when it will be on and I may be driving back and forth (possibly dangerously) with no solution. This is one of three major problems with this car in the last 3 years.
Update from Sep 12, 2018: Brought car to VW repair shop. The (P) light was on from the time I turned the ignition to the time I pulled in. When the mechanic saw the car, it was out. They did a test drive but the light did not go on. Told me if it was really the brake problem, I would not have been able to drive it all this time. No charge, but no answer either. I’m afraid to drive this car.
