One morning my VW Tiguan decided to turn the steering wheel light to red on my dashboard. No power in steering, hard to turn, etc... Carefully drove my car to the dealer, they said the wires were all gone (maybe the squirrels chewed them). They fixed the wires and connectors for around $300.
Just 20 days later, I have the same indicator staring at me and steering wheel doesn't turn easily. Driving back to VW dealer, this time they said "the module isn't communicating at all, the entire steering rack needs to be replaced", $2000 + taxes (boom!).
Googled around, found many others having similar issues.
I loved the car, but from one of the highest ranked cars I expect not have this kind of big issues at 60K miles (I have an older Nissan Versa, with much more miles on it, and didn't have any issues with it so far).
