turbo charger failure

I had a horrible experience that I want to share with this group with the intention of this not happening to anyone else and looking for support.

I bought a Tiguan 2010, 71100 miles in VOLKSWAGEN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO in march for 11.500$ and I drove the car less than 700 miles due to the pandemic (I just took the car to Rochester MN). The car broke down in Minnesota and the Volkswagen Rochester change the turbo (although it broke again in a day). I reach out to the Chicago dealership and I got 30% economical support (good will) for the first repair but no more. Now Volkswagen Chicago won’t return my calls and don’t take any responsibility for a certified preowned car. (the service director was the only one willing to help but for now I haven’t had any answers).

The car is now in Volkswagen Rochester MN with a desynchronized engine and a 7000$ repair to be made or waiting for turning itself into a junk car. So, I would like to the dealership to take responsibility of what they used to call a certified preowned sold to me with a horrible contract and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I don’t want to have more problems but this are the facts and with papers from Volkswagen I can probe it. I always had in my family a German car I don’t want that this trust is now destroyed by the experience.

Thank you.

Tiguan SEL 2.0L 4 cyl Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,934 miles

Driving on the highway, there was a sudden loss of power and a loud decompression sound, like airbrakes.

I took it to the nearest dealer, and they told me the turbo had cracked in half, and was destroyed.

They charged me $3100 Canadian to fix it, but the engine light came on on the way home, which leads to the next complaint......in a long line of repairs to this vehicle.

I would NEVER buy a VW again.

Turbo failure due to internal mechanical failure. VW would not pay toward any of the repair cost due to year/mileage of vehicle. Dealership diagnosed check engine light and said that it was unsafe to drive off the lot because driving with a broken turbo will destroy the engine. VW customer service supervisor communicated with dealership and said that the reason for this turbo failure was not related to maintenance or any outside factors. Dealership also said that they seem to be "doing a lot of turbos" lately. No recall for this issue at this time.

Tiguan SE 2.0L V4 Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,633 miles

Completely shocked at the poor quality of this vehicle. Even with the proven history of failures regarding the turbocharger, the water pump and the intake manifold, VW is not taking 100% blame for their deceitful engineering on the fly and poor official training to their local mechanics.

I don't believe that a VW will ever take space in my garage, driveway or my life again. And I will suggest the same to my kids.

Tiguan SE Turbo

turbo charger failure, cylinder #4 gasket leak

VW PAID FOR HALF THE REPAIRS, SO TOTAL PAID WAS $1945.87 WHICH IS STILL REALLY EXPENSIVE AND THE LOW MILEAGE.
