timing chain tensioner failure caused catastrophic damage
On Friday, April 15th, 2016 I went to start my car failed to start. I had it towed to VW South Charlotte and they diagnosed it as a timing chain malfunction. After researching the issue further, I found that a TSB 15 12 01 was released by VW on July 23rd, 2012 that superseded T.B. V151104 dated 12/22/11. The TSB covered all 2008-2013 2.0L engines. VW knew that the Timing Chain Tensioner was a design detective piece but failed to inform consumers of this. The failure of this piece was proximate cause of untimely death of my car.
It is gross negligence for VW to not have informed consumers. What could have been a $1000 preventive repair, has now turned in to a $5000 repair. I called VW Customer Care on 4/18/16 petitioned for help. They refused to offer any good will, stating the age and mileage of the vehicle. I will never be buying a VW again, as I need a vehicle I can trust and company I respect,
