I really wished I had read this page prior to purchasing. I was so excited to buy this vehicle. AWD, so it would be safe in Northern Michigan for my son and I. Got it inspected by a mechanic prior to buying... seal of approval. A week after I purchased the 2009 Tiguan it died while driving down a busy road after picking up son from school. Engine light came on a day after purchase but went off. Then while driving the ECL light came on and it just stopped accelerating. Never to start again. Towed to three different places including the dealership (where I purchased the vehicle) who told me it would be $800 just to diagnose the problem. Wouldn't you know it needs a new engine? I have been without a car for over a month and now my first car payment on this vehicle that is worthless is due. Just one of the 60 payments I will owe. Fighting with the dealership to exchange the vehicle for another used one..... Volkswagen should take care of this issue. Obviously, they must know. Interference Engines they call them.
