Apparently there is a recall across many other models for this issue. I am not sure if my model is one of them and will phone VW today.
Since the airbag warning light is on, it fails the annual car test, so it is illegal to drive without a fix.
I paid someone to change the ribbon wire but this fix only lasted 2-3 months.
Next step is to change the whole part, which is about £300 here in the UK, plus ~£150 labour. (2022)
