The Volkswagen Routan is the same vehicle as the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan. It contains the same powertrain and relevant computer/TIPM components. If you can't find information on your problem under the Routan name, look under the two "cousin" models.
Continued and persistent P0018 and P0300 MIL errors which indicate a Cam Position Sensor fault and Multiple Misfires Detected.
Over $5,000 CAD has been spent troubleshooting the ongoing issue.
The cam position sensor has been replaced twice. The VVT solenoid has been replaced. Spark plugs have been replaced twice. Ignition coils have been replaced. Cam phasers have been replaced on the same side as the faulting cam position sensor. Leak down tests were completed on Cylinder 2 and didn't show any problems. Oil has been changed. Batteries in both FOBs have been replaced.
This piece of crap has continued to have long/extended crank starts, has stalled while driving it at least five times while being driven which causes a safety issue when power to steering, brakes and SRS is no longer available, since we purchased it in May 2015.
I've been dealing with Volkswagen Canada about the issue and through all the research done over the last six months it is most likely the faulty TIPM that has been plaguing the Chrysler products and specifically the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan between 2010 and 2014.
Volkswagen Canada won't replace it until Chrysler admits that there's a fault with their crappy TIPM for their minivans which was also installed on the Routan since it's a rebadged Chrysler product.
