Upon entering a railroad crossing, at 7:30 am, the car came to abrupt stop, without any warning.

Update from Jun 20, 2024: The vehicle's Front Assist technology has been activating suddenly without any apparent reason. The most recent incident occurred on Sunday, June 16, 2024, while driving on a local, one-way road, nearly causing a collision. During these events, the car brakes abruptly, even when there are no obstacles in front of me. On a previous occasion, the car braked suddenly while crossing a railroad track.

I have contacted VW regarding this issue, and they referred me to the dealership. However, the dealership has been unable to repair the problem despite following their advice. The issue remains unresolved, and it continues to pose a significant safety risk.

I have also received the class action suit application to possibly reimburse me for incurred costs, but it does not provide a solution to the problem. The sudden braking could potentially cause a fatal accident, especially if there is a car directly behind me when the brakes activate.

front assist sensors faulty

The front Auto Assist breaking engaged upon entering this intersection, stopping abruptly, without any warning. The person behind me nearly rearended my car. I called VW which stated they were unaware of the problem and directed me to turn off the Front Assist and bring to dealership. Dealership found nothing wrong with brakes.

Front Assist system spontaneously kicks in at random times, despite no hazard. It automatically engages the emergency brake system for a fraction of a second. So far, it has only been an annoyance, but could be very dangerous if in the wrong situation. From a Google search, it sounds like a common issue.

Passat SE 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,000 miles

I have a 2017 VW Passat SE. Front assist brakes or gets ready to brake (shows the big car symbol on dashboard and beeps) in bad weather like while it is rainy and there are no cars around me. It also happened a few times during sunny weather. The car slammed the brakes for no reason. There was no car in front of me. I was going like 40-45 mph. I am super scared it will brake one day when I am going with 60+ on the highway and cause a crash. A safety system that is purpose to reduce the accident risk or impact of a crash should not behave dangerously and become a potential accident cause.

Passat R-Line

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,938 miles

Today made the 4th time that the front assist on my 2017 Volkswagen Passat R-Line engaged itself for no reason what so ever!! There was no vehicle in front of me and I’m very lucky that that vehicle behind me did not rear end me and cause an accident!! It’s getting to the point that I am scared to even drive this car anywhere at all because you never know when this feature will engage and cause someone to rear end me!! DO BETTER VOLKSWAGEN!! This is obviously a very common issue which is endangering your customers!!
