While attempting to cross a very busy six lane highway with oncoming traffic, upon acceleration, pedal to the metal, the car wouldn't move. It then caught and very slowly at first and then accelerated. I was screaming at my husband, the driver as to what the heck washedoing. He then explained the malfunction. This happened several times and we then called VW. We left the car at a VW dealer in New Port Richey Florida who said that they could not duplicate the problem.
Update from Sep 12, 2016: We have now left the car with the dealership in Rome NY. They had it for two weeks and now again. Unable to duplicate the problem. From a stopped position, car will not accelerate even if you push the gas pedal to the floor. Very scary trying to cross a busy highway with oncoming traffic. We are working with VW, but so far no luck.
Update from Oct 24, 2016: We requested a repurchase and VW refused and will only comply with our three year warranty. The dealer in Rome had the car for another test drive and had the car for several days, still unable to duplicate the problem. We reopened our dispute and now have a hearing this week to meet with the arbitrator. Very difficult to prove our problem as it happens unexpectedly and not all of the time. Very scary to be in a car that may or may not get you across a busy highway when necessary.
Update from Nov 1, 2016: The arbitrator found in favor of VW because our short test drive did not duplicate the acceleration problem. It happens when least expected and usually from a stopped position. Very dangerous. I will trade this car in as VW claims it is in normal operational condition. It is not and is very dangerous. It sits in my driveway more than on the road. Very unhappy and will never purchase a VW again. Buyer beware.
