Live in a very rural area. Owned a 2009 TDI Jetta previously - loved it. Thought we were upgrading by buying a new TDI Passat. Had just driven down a big mountain into the desert valley (so lucky that the transmission hadn't failed coming down the mountain). The transmission failed in our street so we were very lucky, but my 17 year old son was driving and it could have been a bad situation. Dealer has had car since 12/23/14 and expect to have it until at least 1/5/2015. Waiting to hear if will replace transmission or just the automatic clutch package (hope its the first). I need a reliable car and now I don't trust it at all !!! Should a $40,000 car's transmission fail at 9,700 miles ?
