Purchase 2014 VW Passat and owned for 6 weeks, the car had 50k miles, it was used and I am the second owner. Two weeks ago I parked the car in my driveway and the following day I was not able to start, the KEY did not go in the ignition. No matter what I did, spraying wd4, using the spare key and even read that there is a latch that sometimes it gets locked and must use a small screwdriver to unlock. Well I contacted the Dealer and they told me to have it tow to them and new ignition maybe 800-900 dollars, so I contacted VW customer service to see if there is something they can do since I have never heard a key that does not get accepted in the ignition.
I know of broken keys, or keys that get stuck due to steering wheel column, but never a key that is not accepted and the crazy stuff was that my steering wheel was not lock, I was told by VW that they do not cover this, since the car is not under warranty, complain that this is workmanship on parts, but they said nothing they can do. Even though I spend 2 hours on the phone waiting to talk to someone, I had it towed to my mechanic instead and a new ignition cylinder was change he told me that 2014 models all have this problem, so I am $400 dollars short and really thinking one day I will park the car and not be able to start. I will stay with the car, but another issue like this is getting traded in for something else, do not have time for bad workmanship, I always thought that VW was a reliable car for my uncle owned a beetle that never gave problems for years, I guess at that time they believe in workmanship.
