The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to prestige Volkswagen of turnersville located at 4271 E black horse pike, turnersville, NJ 08012 (856) 629-9200, for an unknown manufacturer recall (NHTSA number unknown). While the vehicle was at the dealer, the contact was informed of two additional unknown open recalls on the vehicle. While driving from the dealer back to the residence the electronic power control (epc) warning light illuminated. The same dealer was contacted by phone and the contact was informed to have the vehicle taken back to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the oil level in the vehicle was low. The contact disputed that the oil level was low and instead stated that epc warning light failure was due to a throttle body failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After two days, the epc warning light again became illuminated. The vehicle was again taken back to the same dealer and remained in the custody of the dealer for two weeks. The contact was informed that there would be a $600 charge to place an oil level monitor on the vehicle however due to the dispute between the contact and the dealer, the contact was informed by the manufacturer to have the vehicle taken to another authorized dealer. The vehicle was then taken to cherry hill Volkswagen located at 2261 NJ-70, cherry hill, NJ 08002, (888) 486-1840 for a second diagnostic test to be performed. The diagnostic test was performed and an undisclosed part was replaced however, the failure recurred. The epc warning light also recurred. The vehicle was taken back to cherry hills Volkswagen and the contact was provided an estimate of $800 to repair the vehicle however, it was stated that the repair may not fix the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but there was no additional assistance provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

This vehicle has experienced cooling system issues since 49000 miles. The car now has 122,500 miles. The heater core has been replaced 5 times, 2 radiators, egr cooler, intercooler, oil cooler, transmission cooler. These are all impacted with some sort of sludge. VW had issued an extended warranty on the heater core addressed by tsb 80-15-04. After numerous conversation with VW and the dealer service department the parts other then the heater core that is covered under the tsb have been replaced at no cost to me except the inconvenience of the time involved to resolve these issues. VW is claiming that these vehicles do not have an issue other than what the tsb addresses. I have since traded the car in on a 2015 Passat tdi that now appears to be experiencing the same issues. There isn't a tsb or extended warranty for the cooling system/heater on this model. I believe this to be a safety issue, not having the proper heating system could impair visibility in the winter.

While driving at highway speed the vehicle suffered a sudden and catastrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump. The vehicle has only 43K on it and was just purchased after receiving the tdi update 3K miles ago. The fuel pump failure occurred around 60-70 mph on the highway and lead to the vehicle losing all power and barely making it to the shoulder of the road. I have now learned that this failure has completely destroyed my fuel system and is not covered by VW even thoughthey are using the same part that they are covering for the 2010-2013 model years they offered an extended warranty on. Not only is this incredibly unsafe, as a consumer this type of unpredictable and common failure is unacceptable.

Vehicle engine light comes and goes way. The vehicle jerks/shakes when waiting the red signals and looses power and had to stop the vehicle and start the vehicle.I have done all the oil according to the recommended milage by the dealer. And also it looses power when taking turns, in that case need to turn off the vehicle and start again. This happens when vehicle waits the red signal and move/shakes heavily and had to put the vehicle in park and stop it. Though vehicle is 5 year and ran barely 55K and started showing symptoms as mentioned as above.I strongly believe this something to do with the manufacturing. Below is the report from the dealer. ------------------- cam faults, misfires. Scanned vehicle and found cam fault P034100, all cylinder misfires faults. Traced fault to timing chain tensioner failure. ------------------------ I have also attached the invoice and diagnoses results about the issue. And also found in internet related to the same issue that they have seen other VW vehicles. The issue seems to be similar, however VW/VW dealer seems not accepting and doing repair for free. The vehicle was taken to ourisman Volkswagen of waldorf (located at 2282 crain hwy, waldorf, md 20601, (301) 843-1234) where it was diagnosed that the connection from the fuel pump detached and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failures recurred. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The heater core in my 2014 Volkswagen Passat tdi has failed and been replaced four times within the last 2 years. There is/was an extended warranty related to the heater core failure but there has not yet been a recall despite an obvious defect with the heater cores. Failure 1, 11/28/2016- reported as insufficient heat, primarily passenger side - warranty covered failure 2, 06/30/2017- identified by check engine light alert- warranty covered failure 3, 0/7/10/2017- identified by check engine light alert, warranty covered failure 4, 11/28/2017- reported as insufficient heat- primarily on passenger side- originally reported on 10/26/2018- VW declined to cover under warranty. Without a properly functioning heater core, the windshield defroster will not have heat. In this situation, the driver will have difficulty maintaining a clear windshield, which will create a hazardous situation. The lack of heat in the vehicle can also be unsafe in some climates.

We took the car in for maintenance to the dealership a month ago. It was a little loud which was evident. The dealers mechanic said the car was fine. A few weeks ago the check engine light came on (steady not blinking). We took it into the dealership and found out that the timing tensioner (apparently a known vehicle issue according to the mechanic), and that it had damaged the engine to the point it needed to be replaced. It has a 1.8T, and I am curious exactly how prevalent this problem is.

Starting getting timing code errors. Took it to the dealer and they said the timing chain is bad and will cost nearly $4000 to replace. Looked online and this is a common occurence with the make and model of this car. Want to make sure they don't get away with this. They should be recalling this and making the repairs.

2014 VW Passat tdi SE 2.0L manual my vehicle has 62,583 mi. On it. I was driving on the highway when the diesel "glow plug" light began flashing on the dashboard and I lost all engine power. I was driving down the interstate 5 in the la area and without warning, my car started jerking and lost power. I was stuck on the fast lane without being able to restart my car in Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. I had my car towed to a VW dealership and the diagnosis came back as metal in the fuel system. I was told this was due to the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failing. What was most disturbing was when I was informed that to fix this problem, they would have to replace the entire fuel system, costing me $7,500. My car is 3 years old and has 75K miles so I was blown away! I called numerous mechanics and all told me they've seen similar problems on VW and Audi vehicles. I went online to do some research and found a number of forums with VW customers with identical problems. All complain about the hpfp failing and then resulting in metal in the fuel system, causing an expensive replacement of the fuel system. I also read that VW has extended the warranty of the hpfp on earlier models due to similar problems. It is clear that VW has still not fixed this problem on its newer models and needs to extend the warranty or issue a recall. They are selling faulty cars that are dangerous to drive and require extremely expensive fixes. Please look into this. Here is the forum with the number of similar issues from other VW customers: Https://www-ODI.NHTSA.dot.gov/vehiclecomplaint/?_ga=1.28961404.1963426351.1491430895
