Bought this car used with approximately 2,500 miles left on original warranty. After one week of driving, the squealing and vibration on rear brakes started. Had the car dealer check the brakes who stated that it is okay. Had the brakes checked again about three months later at a different VW dealer and again, no problems with the brakes.
Since I am mechanically inclined, I did all the work in replacement of parts and immediately, resolved the problem. I should have forced the issue with the dealer I bought the car from but, what the heck, I feel more at ease knowing the job was done right. I'm not completely deferred from purchasing another VW Passat in the future at this time, since mine drives pretty good, but who knows.
