After having the VW TDI emissions modification done last year (2017) the car ran well until the temperature outside dropped below 10F. Under those conditions, the car started normally, but on the dashboard several warning indicators were blinking. When I tried to drive the car, it wouldn't go past 10mph. Once the temperature was back to around 30F, the car started running normally again and all the error codes cleared. I had it connected to a error code reader and no error codes were showing. I'm concerned this will happen again next winter.

I called the dealer and reported the problem and of course they told me they never heard of this from anyone else and to bring the car to the shop. I refused to do it, knowing they would charge me an arm and a leg.

I'm curious if by now VW acknowledged this condition as a result of the emissions modification and if they are willing to cover the repair.

I pay all cash for this brand new VW Passat that is supposed to be the car of the year 2012. Within 3 weeks, the car stalled on the high way, ECP lite on, luckily, no car hit us. Tow to the dealer, it is manufacturer defect engine. Worker there installed broken part in the engine. VW dealer refused to replace a new car for this defect car that is their fault. It appears the new US plant has no quality control on the car they made. A broken part in the engine. Now they just want to replace the part without install a new engine. I am very unhappy,, because I do not know what other debris in the engine that can cause problem in later time. Their customer service is bad. I got this from Puente Hill VW. a future recommendation, do not buy VW. They do not take care of the problem they caused. They said that the service will guaranty the car is safe before I drive. the car actually failed after I took the car for their inspection.

Update from Jul 19, 2012: I just received the car today which I request for a change... They insured the car is safe to drive, but the engine and car shakes while idling. not as smooth as before after the fix. Transmission act weird. Fixing a defected engine out from manufacturer is not the best customer care. Paying cash for a defective car, not fair. They should take the car back and give me a new one. The customer care case manager lied to us about having field engineer to do investigation. No test, no investigation very rude. There were a long list of problem on this new car. It is a very serious issue.
