I had the timing chain and the cam replaced in November of 2016 and spend approximately $4,000. I took my car back to Lafontaine Volkswagen dealership repeatedly after they claimed they fixed in in 2016. The engine light never went off and neither did the service now light go off. They took it in every time I brought it to them and reset something and the lights would go off for a day or two. There was never any solution offered to the problem.
On September 14, 2018 the engine shut down. I took it to three different mechanics before having it towed to Lafontaine Volkswagon. The said I need a new engine and I asked why and after some hesitation they said the timing chain bad. I reminded them that they had fixed it in November of 2016, they said this was a different problem and that the work done in November 2016 is not under warranty.
I been taking my car to Lafontaine Volkswagen for routine service over the years, not sure how the timing chain died for a second time? They're telling me now that it can't be fixed and that I need a new engine that would cost upwards of $5,000.
