The bulb is some crazy halo thing that cost $180. I've changed many headlight bulbs in my day...easy. After having the entire front end of the car pulled apart in my garage, I still could not get the headlight housing out to replace the bulb. Called the dealer to see how much it would cost and they said $35. I emphasized the make and model of the car and they said, "Yep. $35"
After dropping it off the next morning I get a call at work telling me it will take a little longer and the cost will be $600. Not covered under warranty, no recalls. Just like when the a/c compressor quit at 54,000 mile and cost $1300, or when the airbag fault light came on at 62,000 miles and cost $650 to fix. German engineering - no wonder we kicked their butt.
