hi i just purchased this car 2 weeks ago and its been really a bad decision, it was working fine the first week, but later i had lots of problems when i tried to start it, , and not to mention how bad a nice looking car like this one makes u look. then a front light went out, and air bag light turned on, without a crash or anything like that, I'm afraid to go somewhere and the car wont start again, on top of that the steering column fail message shows up on screen and the car is out of warranty. I heard that the fix to that problem costs like 1500 bucks. so in 2 weeks i have had so many problems than my whole life with any other car, and i had always had vw cars, last one was a 02 jetta and no problems at all. and the worst thing is that i sold that excellent car to get this piece of crap mannnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VW i was a believer but Im losing faith to the point that no more vw for me, i hope i can get rid of this lemon asap.

Vw 2006 passat. It sarted as a simple mistart, I took the car to the dealer. After inspecting it, they did not find anything wrong. Sometime after the problem got worst, took to the shop and I was told it was a part called (imobilizer) in order to fix it im going to replace some other parts as well. When everything gets done it's going to cost me over $1,000. I think it's bullshit because the warranty has expired just 5 months ago. I took my car to the dealer when it was still under warranty, but they could not conform the problem at that time, but I new there was a problem. I think there's has to be recall for this problem because there's hundreds of complaints posted in the internet.

My 06 VW Passat 2.0T had the infamous Steering Column Lock issue that many other consumers have complained about online. I never even adjusted my steering wheel before but for some reason, the ignition would not start and the dashboard would say, "Steering Column Lock" but it wouldn't actually be locked. It was $2K worth of repairs and was not covered under warranty but the dealership and corporate shared the expense of fixing it after many complaints and negotiating. The funny thing was, my co-worker had his car in for the very same reason just the week before which was insanely ironic.

Even if your warranty is up, fight for them to take care of the expense because they are very aware of this issue but, apparently, they don't recall defects if it is not life threatening.

So in addition to ALL the other problems I get in my car a few weeks ago and get this " STERING COLUMN DEFECTIVE" warning on my message board. I am so sick of my message board having all sorts of new things to say to me. I just want it to say, HEY TODAY YOU HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH YOUR PASSAT, YAY!
