When car has more than 1/2 tank of gas, there is a strong fuel smell permeating the car, and my garage. Had my mechanic look at it - he replaced the tank seal, but it didn't fix it. He said it would likely require the replacement of the tank. Took it to VW, and they wanted $120 to even look at it - said that prior recall on the fuel system was 'closed' and not applicable. I wish my dealer was aware of the 'soft recall' another poster described! VW should replace these leaking fuel tanks.
