I'm not the only one with this problem. My car has been stalling at intersections and revving other times. Finally a code came up... cam shaft sensor. Vw replaced it for $$$ (400) I think...been 3+ yrs. The next day, the same problem. Went back and plan B was, "leave the car". We were going away for many weeks and didn't trust this car. It wasn't under warranty and I read too many complaints about hit or miss solutions for big money.
In the beginning of this problem, it was once in a while, until this summer when it was many times a day. Codes came up a lot. One said change the cam shaft. Car only has 135,000 miles. No! Frustrated, I took off the shroud and looked for any vacuum leaks... nothing. The camshaft sensor is on the upper right hand side of engine with an electrical connection on the top and a phillips screw holding it in place. Although the code had come up that it was the problem, it wasn't and cost near $200 for the part. BUT on the upper left side of the engine there is a similar looking part, smaller, also with an electrical plug and a phillips screw. Wiggle it and it comes right out. The end of it looks like a pencil eraser covered in oil/goo. I cleaned it with a rag and replaced it. For the rest of the day, no problem... I touched on the answer!!! Not knowing what it was,I went to VW parts and asked ,what is it... IMPULSE SENSOR... $129. They had no idea about the answer to my problem. In 10 minutes I replaced the problem that I had for 4 years. That was 9/12/2019 and have not had another problem with it yet... 11/30/2019. It was fixed. I'm not a mechanic, but I have worked on cars. I just hate paying money to someone and its not fixed.
