There are many of us that have the same problem but have not found help in getting issue resolved. There is a recall VW 34J6, NHTSA 19V866000.. the problem is that my vi# is not part of recall even though the same thing happened as the vehicles with the recalls. It involves the DQ200 7 speed auto transmission with build dates of 11/07/2011 to 03/27/2015. My car was built 11/2013 which falls between these dates.

I was told, as others were that I needed a transmission. My car had 62,000 miles. My car is inoperable. VW does not take transmissions apart to even see if there are any hairline cracks in the mechatronic unit. I was lucky that I did not get hit by another car as my vehicle just stopped, loss of drive power, suddenly.

Transmission issues? I am not a mechanic. VW is no help. The car has very low mileage because it was not driven very often. One day when I was driving it, it just slowed down and then stopped. I took it to the dealer because it did manage to start up again. They were no help. They charged me to look at it and said the solution was to replace the transmission for $10,000! I said no so not sure what to do. The engine is worth money because it has barely any miles on it. I feel like someone somewhere knows how to fix it but I don't live in a big city. Sigh.

Check engine light came on and the car lost power. Above the gear notification icon, a flashing wrench appeared. I was able to drive the car by selecting the manual option, but only odd gears were available. Even gears and reverse were not available. Shut the car off when I got home. After sitting for about an hour, it ran fine even though the check engine light remained on. Checked the code and got a P0701. Over the next few days, this happened off and on.

Prior to this happening, I contacted the extended warranty company asking how I could extend the warrant since it was getting close on the mileage section. Informed that I needed to talk to the dealer that I bought the car from. I contacted the dealer and everybody wanted to sell me a new car. Nobody knew how to answer my question. This was on March 16, 2020. Numerous attempts via phone, online text and chat proved futile.

In the meantime, the transmission issue occurred OUTSIDE of the mileage section of the warranty. I called the extended warranty company again on April 10, 2020 asking if there was anything that they could do. Again, you must contact the dealer. The dealer finally called on April 12, 2020 and indicated that they would take care of the warranty. Only issue is that the transmission is not working correctly.

On April 13, 2020, I took my car in to the local VW dealership to have it looked at. The car was there over 3 hours even though I was the first customer in the door and I had an appointment. Road testing produced nothing, but P1732 and P173D codes were found. Dealer called VW tech line and VW indicated that a new transmission was the only option. Out the door would be 9236.14!!!

Took my car to the local German service shop (independent) asking for their opinion based on what the dealer discovered. Shop indicated that this was a new transmission design from VW and that it was full of bugs. It was designed just for the hybrid. Shop said that VW discovered the issue and created a software bandage to fix the issue, but it was not a permanent solution. It was intended to prolong the life of the car instead of VW fixing the issue under warranty. Shop also indicated that normal service done to the cars would show the possibly future issue, but shops just cleared the code out without telling customers. Again, VW would have had to replace the ENTIRE transmission on these cars!!!

So now I have a car that drives, but acts up here and there. The dealer suggested that I clear all the codes out and sell it on my own for maximum money. I don't have the money to fix it nor do I have the money to buy another car at this time due to the COVID19 issues.

Update from Apr 14, 2020: The car is drivable since the check engine light does not always come on. When it does, the car will automatically downshift to the next lower odd gear. When this happens the car will slow down rapidly due to the higher RPM. Lower speeds, in 2nd gear, will drop it into 1st and the car essentially stops.
