Clutch suddenly failed while on highway 95, no acceleration and rpms to max. Limped off highway and the failure endangered two elderly occupants who had to tow at their own expense nearly 40 miles to the nearest VW dealer in Wilmington DE. The car was meticulously maintained by VW service and was three years and 48000 miles into its 6 year 72k warranty. In spite of the sudden failure and need to replace the clutch, slave cylinder, flywheel and the wrecked alternator (explained that the clutch when it came apart broke that as well) the dealer claimed they couldn't find any defect and it was likely 'outside influence' which implied a life long stick driver caused its failure in three years and under 50k miles. Hogwash. VW corporate has twice denied our appeals.
As a two time VW buyer since 2019, this is very concerning as it endangered family and VW will not honor its warranty and they put the burden of proof on the consumer to tell them they are wrong. No clutch suddenly fails like that, the outside influence is their perverse incentive at the dealer to not consider it a warranty job and get paid more for the repairs, and VW creating these conditions in their incentive structure and being cheap and putting out defective vehicles. Shame on VW. I'm sure the cards will be stacked towards their favor in arbitration as well.
