So, with ONLY 40,090 MILES on a 2017 Jetta SE 1.4L auto, my touchscreen went BLACK today, 06/24/2020.
At first, I thought it was odd when I placed the car into reverse and there was no back-up camera image. So, I put it back into Park and then into Reverse again.
Screen was STILL BLACK.
The buttons on the radio did NOT work; however, my radio was playing when I had originally started the car and I was able to change channels using the steering controls.
The car had been parked for eight (8) hours at work.
VW doesn't make cars like they used to. Twenty years ago, a friend let me borrow an '89 Golf that wouldn't die.
Even their high-end brand, Audi, have a reputation for blown head gaskets and failed transmissions. We only found that out when we were looking for a 2008-2010 A4 for our son. We increased our budget and ended up getting him a Scion FRS and we've NEVER LOOKED BACK (well, it is technically a TOYOTA!).
This is my first and LAST VOLKSWAGEN. Previously, I had a TOYOTA truck which I wanted to be buried in but then I had kids. Bye bye truck. Hello SUV. We got an Acura MDX which was a SOLID (HONDA) car and sold it when it was seventeen (17) years old with 112k miles for a better gas mileage car. HUGE MISTAKE - buying this VW PILE OF JUNK that is FAILING after only a 3 years and with only 40k miles on it.
I agree with another member on the forum that we should all band together to form a CLASS ACTION SUIT for a known problem by VW where customers are being forced by the dealers to spend over $700 for a new unit which is NOT guaranteed to work.
