The car was running rough, lousy acceleration, and almost stalling at an idle. the car stalled several times for no apparent reason and the last incident had the car stalling in the middle of an intersection. the car would not start again and had to be towed to the dealership. the dealership service department seemed to have no idea as to why the car was stalling. the dealership service department looked at the car several times and said that there were no codes identifying the cause of stalling. The last time it stalled there was apparently a code that showed up showing that there might be a camshaft problem, but they weren't sure. A corporate engineer advised that a worn camshaft could be a very likely cause. It's totally frustrating because the car is obviously dangerous to drive with it stalling at any time, and also frustrating because the dealership techs didn't seem to have a clue as to what might be causing the problem, and they are the supposed experts on these cars. Then I read about all of these incidents of VW's stalling and the correlation to a camshaft issue. Seems to me that the dealership was just trying to avoid an under warranty repair.
