Determining the problem and the causation has been quite costly in terms of time and effort as well. Mechanic has had to go through process of elimination in an effort not to remove the engine! Then I find out there was a lawsuit covering this very issue.

Jetta SE 1.8L V6

Within only TWO MONTHS OF PURCHASE. And after MULTIPLE PEOPLE told me the car is great and it was in very good condition, the TIMING CHAIN FAILS. They wanted to charge me $3,600 for repairs which is over half the price of the car, but I eventually got it done for free seeing as I work at the dealership. I spent 3 WEEKS trying to get them to lower their price for an EMPLOYEE. I'm VERY FRUSTRATED.

Jetta GLI 2.0L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

My motor jumped timing when I started the vehicle. I took it back to the dealership and they repaired it under the extended warranty. 2000 miles later my vehicle on three occasions gave me an oil pressure warning light and warned me to turn my motor off immediately. I took the vehicle back to the dealership each time and the light would not stay on but it would go off within a few seconds. The dealer on the last time finally dropped my oil pan and discovered that there was metal shavings in my oil pan. I automatically assume that its due to the timing chain jumping in my motor and I am being told that it isn't the case. I am still waiting for VW to tear the motor down to see what exactly failed in the motor. I will update once I have gotten the info.
