The car just turned 67K miles. I noticed a strained humming noise and I thought could be the timing, but I was not familiar with timing chains opposed to belts. I asked my SIL who is a mechanic by trade to listen and he said he refers all VW to his friend who said definitely timing chain tensioner or the time chain needs replaced. There is a knock as if I have run it low on oil and the oil was changed in March and is full. The car has not even been driven 3K miles since the oil change. No oil leaks. Oil is full and clean. Dropped it off at certified VW mechanic and I await their diagnosis of the problem. I did my research and found this is a common problem and saw the class actions but my VIN is not included which is shocking. I contact the VW dealership that I purchased from and they of course gave me the run around and they will look at it but it will cost me out of pocket.
