i had a vw jetta 2012, i had a problem on key ignition system, so i had serviced from dealer about 2 years ago, with over 400 dollars spent on parts and labor. now it happened again about 2 years later. i contacted dealer and vw usa main customer service dept. they just keep saying it is over 1 year 12,000 mile warranty, there is no way to do something for this key problem. and i need to pay again over 400 dollars or more. i had another car hyundai santa fe 2007 almost 150,000 miles, it never had key problems and also no problems up to now except consumable parts, and so cheap and easy. please do not buy 2012 jetta if you are thinking about buying a used car. up to now i spent a lot of money, not only on key problem, engine oil housing, window regulator, etc. maybe also new vw car has same problem after expires warranty. the vw dealer is so much more expensive than other american or asian car makers. thank you for reading this.

Car wouldn't unlock, even with key. Then wouldn't lock once I got it unlocked. Brought to dealer whose response was that the computer said car was fine so they wouldn't fix it. Tried to bring the car home, didn't even leave dealership before it wouldn't work again. Dealer admitted to problem, car has been at dealership 3 weeks saying part is back-ordered. I can't drive a car that won't lock so driving stupid loaner Kia Soul which looks like an ice cube on wheels. Cannot believe 1. dealer believed computer over consumer when initially reported problem and 2. VW doesn't have the part to fix the car for so long. Oh, in the midst of this Jetta radio broke too so waiting for them to fix that as well. Paying for Sirius, which can't listen to because car is in shop. Brand new Jetta 2012 bought it so I wouldn't have problems. Now have more than my fair share.
