CarComplaints.com Notes: Digging through the long list of NHTSA complaints about a sudden loss of engine power and the high pressure fuel pump failing, it's never good to come across the "my car (with a cold engine) set itself on fire in the middle of the night" complaint.

One of my long time customers reported this problem, they ended up putting in new engine, yet, VW has not or will not send out any notice at all. Then found out my ex-girlfriend's husband had same problem before the motor seized up. They reported all a new inter-cooler system installed at dealer at owner's expense for $2000.00 US dollars. My father has same vehicle, has not received any recall or info other than one pissed off customer of mine that when he explained symptoms I had told him it was hydrolocked up by something in combustion chamber. Damage was done further by incompetent tech in Salisbury MD when they said bad starter at first. Well, for a diesel this is really bad if you don't take out injector or glow plug first to release the pressure you will bend connecting rods. Snd they did exactly that! This is a beware notice to all who own this car or the likes of !!!!!!!
