My horn randomly stopped working. I took it to a friend to replace and it ended up costing me $300 to do it.

My car was a "certified used vehicle" so it came with a 2 year warranty. The horn stopped working about a month after I purchased it. I brought it to the dealership and paid the standard $50 to have the horn replaced. The entire time the salesman was raving about the warranty he forgot to mention the $50 charge.. I was told if there were any issues with the car, "they will be fixed for free".

Jetta Hughline 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,010 miles

My horn randomly stopped working while I was driving. There have been many times where I needed to use it since it stopped working.

I went to the dealership and they said it will take anywhere from $85-150 to diagnose the problem (depends on how long it takes to find it)

A lot of people are having this issue with Volkswagens. When I turn the car alarm on I can hear the beep so I think it works. The horn also works off and on randomly. So I don't think its a horn problem but a relay problem.

I am so frustrated with my decision to buy my 2011 VW Jetta 2.5SE. I am losing money everyday that this problem lingers because I am sup/posed to be working with UBER but can NOT since my horn is not working, I failed the vehicle inspection that is required annually to drive with UBER. I can not find my horn relay and VW doesn't feel responsible to provide me with a fuse map or any type of legend that shows me where it is located. I even purchased a Haynes repair booklet and after breaking the seal on this $30 manual, it only provides general info. The owners manual says that I need to have the dealer do the repair. The relay alone cost me $100 and now that want me to give them more money to tell me where it is located. What kind of organized profit ONLY organization are you running. If anybody can help me please feel free to contact me 480-593-8952. Thanks.

Jetta TDI 2.0L 140 Hp Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,000 miles

We purchased our 2011 TDI Jetta in 2/10/2011. Returned for a factory recall on 6/23/2011 for Converter box wiring repair. They installed wiring repair kit harness. We had periodic problems with the horn sounding when locking the doors but the horn seemed to work when needed. We don't use the horn that much so it's kind of hard to tell if and when it was working.

Recently the horn chirp when locking doors stopped sounding and then the horn stopped working all together when pressed on steering column. No warning lights on the display are lit. It seems ironic that the recall in 2011 was dealing with what seems to be the same circuit problems that would cause the car to stall when the horn was pressed. Now 7 months out of warranty with only 28,000 miles the VW dealer wants $140.00 just to diagnosis the problem on top of the charge to fix their problem. I have noticed there are several more VW owners having the same or similar problems with this.

Thanks for any help.
