check engine light on

We bought this vehicle with 102000 miles on it and about 2 weeks after that the check engine light came on. The code was an "implausible signal" from the MAP sensor. What happens is the PCV diaphragm cracks/ruptures and lets oil into the air intake system which then causes the MAP sensor to set off the check engine light. I replaced this in August 2017, then December 2017 and now in March 2018!

I need to note that the FIRST time the part was what I believe to be the ORIGINAL VW Diaphragm. When this diaphragm goes bad you are supposed to replace the entire valve cover (it's at least $100.00 from amazon). Dorman makes just the replacement diaphragm for $20 which SEEMED like a money saving alternative at the time.

I've now bought that part 3 times! The last time I bought one, I bought it locally so that I could make use of the "lifetime" warranty. I figure I'll just bring it in and swap for another one if it happens again (well not "if" but "when" at this rate). Eventually I'll probably get irritated enough to spend the $100 for the entire valve cover. Volkswagen really needs to make the OEM Quality PCV Diaphragm available separately from the entire cover.

Jetta Highline Tdi

  • Manual transmission
  • 84,506 miles

We have been consistent with all dealer servicing. Periodically, the engine goes on and we get it serviced. The last one in Spring 2015 was a fuel sensor part and cost 900 to fix. Now six months later the glow plug light flashes and the engine light is on and its Oct 2015. We took it in and they say its a 800. part but they are not sure if this will fix the engine light problem. In our anger, and especially with the ongoing problems with TDi's,and the unknowns around what will happen to our car, we said we would wait to replace, but we paid the $400. 130,000k service. oil, filters, etc. There are no other symptoms. However, when we bought the car and drove it for a week, we took it back and said that once in a awhile there is a very brief loss of power between 2nd and 3rd. The owner of the dealership drove it but nothing happened. We wanted to get it on record immediately. It still does this.

With no warning car started violently shaking and check engine light started blinking. Luckily I was able to pull-off the side of the road to avoid a collision. However, if I had been a little further down the Interstate would not have been in a position to get off the road. The shaking motion made the car not safe to drive.

Jetta Wolfsburg

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,400 miles

We purchased this car for our daughter with the "certified" Volkswagen label- which had 27000 miles on it when purchased 2 years ago. Conveniently, warranty on used vehicle expired 2 months ago so repair was not covered by warranty. The dealership suggested we do another $2000.00 worth of repairs even though we told them we had already completed the "suggested" repairs since we have serviced the vehicle exactly as the book suggests. Just sad that a car can't make it too far over 40,000 miles without a significant repair. Would NEVER buy another Volkswagen again.

Then when our daughter, whom is at college, went to pick up car and the service department scared her to death by saying don't drive it without having the transmission serviced or you'll have issues. We had the transmission serviced in March of this year- SAD!!!! Have a Lexus SUV that is over 11 years old with almost 200,000 miles- never had a problem.

Check Engine light on and off due to P401 -Insufficient EGR flow

Car runs fine, slightly less MPG

Seems if I run high RPM's for extended time, i.e. high speed on highway, the CEL will go out...but alas, it always returns.......................
