Here I go again, on my own. I owned an 01 Passat from 2006 to 2010. It was a nightmare with the brown sludge, and I did document it here. Look for calm rational 40 year old, in the description. I vowed never to dabble again with VW.
I was tempted again.
Saw a nice 07 Jetta, in springfield Ohio. It was in the service center of Bill Marine VW, needing a battery. I should of walked away. But curiosity got the better of me. I took it for a test drive, only to get a MIL. They fixed this, (an o2 sensor, and radiator cooling fans..allegedly). And I paid my $4990, for a nice manual version in November 2015.
Over the last 8 weeks..Trunk latch randomly opens, drivers window fails to lower, radio flickers over a bump. All points to the harness in the drivers door. And this also kills the battery. Makes you think that the dealership already knew about the problem, and has pushed to car to whatever idiot (me) who will pay for it.
Can VW address their quality?, their reputation?, and with this whole diesel scandal it makes you think there is no one at the wheel, but the accelerator is firmly down. I can't be that unlucky to have two defective VW's?.
I'm selling the damn thing, when I go to look at the repairs next week. Yes it's going to be a loss, but I suspect it's going to cost me even more in the long term.
Time to buy something more reliable. Honda / Toyota / Nissan etc
