A rattling noise was coming from the transmission when you turn on the car and especially when you turn it off. It sounds like two pots and pans are repeatedly hit against each other. My mechanic said its a known issue for these Jettas and that it was a bad flywheel. I had it replaced. The rattling noise was noticeably quieter but eventually got back to where it was when I replaced the first one. I'm very dissatisfied with VW and this Jetta. I've had many other issues with this car.
