My entire vision was blocked as the fabric unhinged due to heat drying out the foam layer under the ceiling fabric. It dropped down and blocked my rear view vision. We were shocked by how LITTLE amount of fabric is actually tucked into the plastic all around holding the fabric tight. VW is so damn cheap! There was no other option than to replace the entire interior fabric. The guy at the repair place said it happens in all VW's eventually. The hotter the environment, the faster it dries out!

noticed the headliner starting to separate at the front interior light and near the driver side visor. at this point ( a year later ) it is all the way from front to back ... I thumb tacked it into place as best I could! purchased new headliner and had someone ready to install .... until he saw a video of how difficult VW's can be ... he no longer wanted to be responsible if his install was faulty and backed out ... this is a man that installs headliners for a living!!! with so many complaints about this issue, I am a little surprised there hasn't been a recall!

The roof liner separated from the light panel only. I'm hoping it does not continue. It's an impossible fix for the individual. I've never had this happen to any car I've ever owned. I like the car in general but would never buy another just because of this problem and the fact that they lied about their emissions.

My friend and I have the same model VW TDI (06). I was over at his house and checked the headliner in his 06 VW TDI and it was sagging just like mine. Huston We Have A Problem!! I called VW Customer care and because I was one one year out of my CPO Warranty they would not fix a well documented problem with this vehicle type. Come on VW if you want my future business you got to work with me a little esp if this is a problem in your manufacturing. Thanks for the website, all we can do is band together and tell VW they do have a problem and we are not going to put up with their crap!!

Two of the places were at Glendale VW in Glendale, CA, about 9 mouths ago. I spoke to a guy by the name of Phoenix. What he said said and I quote " I didn't buy the car from him, nor did I have to help you " I walked away. Nice customer service I thought. I will never give my money or my time to VW of Glendale again because, of rude customer service. A couple of moths later, when the liner started to pull away for the all four corners, I went to VW of Downtown Los Angeles, spoke to Gary Schwartz. He gave me a price of 800 dollars to have the liner fixed. After my eyes dropped out of my head. He suggested that I look for other places to have the repair done. Witch I have done. Last week when the Liner started hitting my head and started to cover the interior light. I took my car to Markel's Auto Interiors. He said the sagging was so bad! That I should again try to contract VW customer service again to see what they could do. What Dennis said from Markel's Auto Interiors said, " mostly likely they will fix it for 1/2 price. Because VW would want to keep customer retention and make me loyal to the VW brand.I contacted VW customer care and all they said was, " I am sorry we are unable to meet your expectations and apologize for the disappointment this matter has caused you."

Any day now I expect to see the sagging ceilings. Pathetic, that a brand new car is falling apart like one built in the 70s.

Pitiful this is happening to an otherwise excellent car. The Volkswagen dealerships that I have talked to about fixing the problem have been arrogant, rude and less than helpful. The headliner has pulled loose at all curves and tight bends and is actually sagging from the ceiling at the cabin light.

Jetta VE 2.5L

The headliner fabric started separating from the ceiling in only the areas with sharp curves at first. I was annoyed by it, but became extremely annoyed about eight or nine months later when about 75 or 80% of it had began to sag. It was sagging about six or eight inches from the top of my head, and i eventually ripped out the rest of it myself. This wouldn't have been SO annoying if it wasn't one of the myriad of quality/aesthetic issues with the car. There are no engine or functional issues with the car, but avoid it if you want a car that's going to look presentable 60,000 miles into its life without having to spend an extra $1200 on it. A goddamn Honda Civic can do that.
