During winter driving with temperature at 18 degrees the windshield wipers became inoperative after 45 minutes of use in wash mode. Water/ice builds up under a plastic cowl, this cowl hides the windshield wiper mechanics. The ice build up prevents operation of the windshield wipers. A friend of mine who is a 2005 VW Jetta owner has reported this identical problem with his car. VW has refused to cover this repair under warranty, claiming this is an environmental problem.
