The 2005 Jetta would randomly fail to start, and would stop running at inconvenient times. This would leave the car stranded in the street needing to be towed. We had multiple diagnostics which could find nothing, but fuses were replaced. Then, we paid to replace the fuel pump (which was not actually faulty) for $950. Finally, it was discovered that the real reason for the problems was a faulty ignition coil which is apparently a common problem with these cars ($354). This is a dangerous and extremely annoying problem.

All coolant and oil hoses are poor quality and disintegrate causing severe pressure issues..

I have replaced the oil breather hose ($200.00 from 034 motorsports) I have replaced the coolant hoses lower and upper supply ($150.00 from OEM supplier) I have replaced the coolant interconnect butt connectors ($100.00 from OEM supplier) I have drained and replaced the coolant ($50.00 from OEM supplier)

There are still a TON of hoses that have failures Every time I replace a hose I break a hose, it is only a 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8T SHAKES HEAD! My 1995 Ford Explorer runs like a champ!

I have had this Jetta for less than a year and it has been in the shop more than it has been in my driveway. We were on our way back from Missouri to North Carolina when our car decided it didn't feel like working anymore. No warning we turned off on an exit and all of the warning lights came on and the car had no power. We were stranded in Tennessee.

We have the best extended warranty on our car turns out that VW had put out bulletins to have this problem fixed all of these cars need the computers reprogrammed but nothing can be done until you break down. We always have our car serviced at the dealership and keep up with the maintenance as a matter of fact it was in for service the day before we went on the trip. Turns out that having the problems fixed with the computer is not covered imagine that! Now our wonderful warranty is supposed to have our car shipped back, they just dont know when and I'm left without a car. Don't buy a Jetta!!

I bought this car for reliability. The engine light comes on saying "emissions workshop" right after it dies. There is no warning when it quits--it's just suddenly dead. I have been left on the side of a highway twice. Each time, after 20 minutes it will restart, but not before then. The dealer says it's running fine. Duh, it IS when they have it. I had 2000 miles on it the first time it quit, and 4000 the second time. It's BRAND new! Because I'm female, they asked several times if I had used regular gas instead of diesel. I'm not STUPID. There is something going on .
