The contact owns a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact has had to replace the transmission three times within three months. There is a dial pin the differential gear, which came out of place and caused the transmission to lock up while driving 25 mph. The vehicle was taken to the shop numerous times and was informed that this was a manufacturer defect, which should be recalled. The current and failure mileages were 134,000. Updated 10/14/08 updated 10/17/08.
The manual transmission slips out of gear for no reason, with no warning at certain speeds and in certain gears. When you try and accelerate the engine revs but you don't go anywhere, possibly a very dangerous situation. I have had the car in twice for repairs and the problem still occurs, all that has changed is which gear. The dealer claimed these repairs were not under warranty even though the transmission is covered by a 10-year warranty.
