I purchased a 2000 VW Jetta on 6/16/10. Two weeks after purchase, the vehicle began to have problems & since I have had the vehicle, it has had to have the following repairs: 2 fans, ABS sensor would come on & lock up the wheels, so the system had to be unplugged, coolant system had to be replaced, a transmission replaced & a certified transmission specialist found it had been taken out prior & 4 cyl parts were used in a 6 cyl vehicle, & thermostat had to be replaced. The cost of repairs to date are approx. $5,200 & I only paid $4,995 for the vehicle. This vehicle is not safe and should not have been sold in the condition it was in. The seller failed to disclose that the vehicle had underlying problems after I inquired several times. The business should be held responsible for selling an unsafe vehicle and I wonder how many other vehicles the business has sold like this. I have this vehicle in for repairs more than I have been able to drive it & when I purchased it, the seller was aware I needed a reliable vehicle to get to the kidney transplant very quickly.
I am requesting that the Agency please investigate the performance of the ignition coil plugs on the model year 2000, Volkswagen, Jetta. I have experienced multiple stalling events and car not starting up after up or being parked after shutting off engine as a result of one or more ignition plus malfunctioning on my 2000 Volkswagen Jetta gl. As a result of the engine stalling and not starting when ignition is accelerated, I have also I experienced a loss of power steering and increased breaking efforts when I pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. The car would not start when sitting for a while. After about 45 minutes or longer - I was able to start the vehicle although the engine operated at a reduced power. The vehicle will stall and will not start up for no reason at all. I feel very unsafe and nervous when driving - and have had the problem over and over and have paid for costly repairs. Still to no avail, it keeps happening. Tired of the vehicle - will never ever purchase a Volkswagen again! please investigate the electrical system ignition module on Volkswagen Jettas - year 2000 please asap !!! I have been stranded in the worst places with the vehicle - with no help to restart the vehicle.
The car transmission stalled about 4 times. Each time (4 time) I took the car to the VW dealership and they could not identify the problem. Then the car broke down. I took it back to the VW dealership then the dealership identified it as a transmission problem. The cost to repair the car is $4000. Also, no other dealership or auto repair shop has serviced this car except miller VW.
Transmission failed. The dealer replaced the part. However, two weeks later the part failed again. The vehicle would not go into reverse. The transmission slipped and the vehicle had run into a pole at a gas station on the right front side. This problem remained the same. The engine light had come on along with the transmission problems. Other problems were: The tire pressure had to be reset on numerous occasions, rear pads, A/C was not cooling, glove box, power windows, console, power sunroof, interior trim, steering/suspension, driveability, trim electrical, sound system, and heating/cooling. The consumer did not report any damage to vehicle when she hit the pole.
Consumer stated that while driving on the highway, the vehicle began to vibrate. He had to pull to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed. The consumer was told by the mechanic that the transmission mounts broke and caused the engine to drop down. Consumer stated that the vehicle was fairly new and had only 42,182 miles on it, and this should not have happened.

All my transmission mount bolts have failed. The right mount bolts failure was noted when having my timing belt replaced at 60K. The front mount bolts were noted just prior to that when I heard noses that sounded like my clutch was failing. In this case the front bolt had been broken. The left side failure just occured, leading to my engine to drop out as I was moving. The result of one broken bolt and one dethreaded bolt, I'm not sure what order this happened. I am lucky that I was not killed as I was going slow when it happened.
In Oct 2000 my car overheated, I reported this to VW and they made some adjustments, I also reported a noise from the left front like a whining noise, this was attributed to a failure in the transmission, VW did repairs to ring and pinion gears and differential bearings, noise subsided for a few weeks. The warning: Check coolant light came on again several months later, reported problem to VW and I was instructed to add water to raise coolant level. In Sept. 2001, I reported air conditioning failure, VW determined cooling system had problem, replaced coolant fan and secondary water pump, I also reported return of whining noise. Car has now been at VW in glendale, ca since 10/2/2001, dealer has replaced left front axel and drive shaft, still whining, replaced transmission. I picked up car, drove 5 miles and car slipped out of gear and now does not run. Returned via tow truck to VW dealer in glendale, ca. VW replacing value box on 10/9/2001 technician said "in my opinion this will not elevate problem" car now has intermitant problem with staying in gear. Technician also reported that VW Jettas glx with VR6 engine have transmission problems and dealer has replaced up to 4 transmissions in one car in several cases. VW dealer and VW of America customer relations department have been notified.
Consumer was driving 23 mph, passing a combine, shifted to second gear and vehicle lost all power. Applied brakes and stopped passing process. Dealer replaced mass airflow sensor. Dealer had replaced numerous sensors.
While driving 45 to 50 mph and with no prior warning vehicle lost speed to around 20 mph. Contacted dealer. The dealer replaced the transmission twice but the consumer thinks the cause of the problem was not the transmission.
While driving could hear noise coming from bottom of vehicle. Took vehicle to dealer where they replaced transmission. Then again the, reverse was not working at this time, and two transmissions had been replaced.
While driving about 70 mph transmission shifted down to 20 mph. Then, consumer had to pull to the side of road, and turn off engine. Then, it restarted and worked again. This caused road rage due to deceleration of transmission.
This is a brand new car. A person should not be expected to accept whatever problems. Dealer wishes to deliver. A person purchases a new car so that they won't have these kind of problems. I find it unacceptable that my new car has already needed a new rear window and now a new transmission. My family are past volkswagon owners and I had convinced two of my friends to by new Jettas. I expect a new car...because I am paying for one!
At 35mph w/automatic transmission on glx model, make a vibrating noise that dissapears at higher speed. Automatic transmission replaced, but noise started again in a short time. Factory has not emitted a notification yet.
