The contact owns a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk abnormally with the illumination of the check engine warning lamp. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised that the mass flow air sensor failed. The contact had received notification of a voluntary manufacturers recall in regards to prior to the failure. The vehicle was repaired under the recall. Less than four years later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was then contacted yet they offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. Updated 07/20/11 the sensor light for the mass air flow replaced twice in December 2007 and again in June 2011. Updated 07/25/11

I own a 2000 VR6 Jetta and I had to replace the ignition coil twice due to the defects of the ignition coil cracking. I read a complaint about this issue on this website back in 2005 and it is very expensive to replace the ignition coil. While I was driving the car, I lost power and it started to stall on me. I almost got into a car accident on the highway because I panic. I am a college student that relies on my car and I travel 300 miles to college. I noticed a lot of sparks by the ignition coil and I am very scared to drive my car because it might catch on fire. Please help!!!

My 2000 Volkswagen Jetta needed a full replacement of the oil pan and gasket. There is no reason that this part should need to be replaced. Also at 121,000 miles the catalytic converter was replaced and Volkswagen had it under extended warranty up to 120,000 and would not replace the part for me. There is no reason these parts should need replacement. The car has 129,500 miles on it, has been garaged, never been in an accident and has mostly highway miles on it.

At about 50,000 miles as I was driving uphill the engine felt as if it was failing and losing power. It regained power, but the check engine light came on. I took it to an independent mechanic who ran a diagnostic, and found many codes on it, but nothing wrong. He cleared out the computer and sent me on my way. I now have 87,000 miles and have been having the same problem continuously. Now, I have to take my car regularly by my mechanic to have the computer cleared out. The check engine light came on 2 days after he cleared it last time. I called Volkswagen and they said there is no recall on the electrical system, but that they have had this complaint before.

Vehicle was purchased new in 2000. Vehicle ran low on oil at 1500 miles. Filed complaint about excessive oil consumption for a new vehicle. Vehicle now has 66,000 miles and burns one quart of oil every 1000 miles. This has happened from the day of purchase. Mechanic has stated that this is within specs, but may damage pollution control systems. I find numerous complaints on-line regarding this issue.

Check engine light came on one week ago. Had oxygen sensor replaced 3 days ago because that's what the diagnostics showed that it needed. Today the check engine light came on again and won't go away. Can't afford to spend money having mechanics "attempt" to fix this problem. I know it's a common VW Jetta issue and I want something done about it!

Consumer concerned with engine and wheel bearing issues. Wants to know who is going to reimburse for repairs. Oxygen sensor had to be replaced several times. The driver side inner door handle was difficult to operate. The left side axle shaft was replaced because it was making a whining noise. While driving the vehicle stalled. It was later determined that a small rodent had built a nest which clogged the air box. The vehicle stalled again and this time they replace the maf sensor. The cruise control was inoperative.

I have a 2000 Jetta and its a good car but it has problems like other Jetta owners that I have talked to. I have taken it to a shop and asked them about my problem and they told me it was a common problem with these kinds of Jettas. The complaint is when I change the oil or have a good amout of oil in the engine it gets eaten at a quicker rate than it should. It takes like 2-3 days then I have to replace a quart of oil or more to make it a good level. The amount of oil being consumed is not good for the engine or for the evironment.

2000 VW Jetta 1.8 turbo. Check engine light came on around 35,000 miles, replaced mass air flow sensor for $99 after calling corporate VW. Check engine light came on at 45,000 miles. Replace mass air flow sensor again for free, replaced brake light switch, replaced turbo sensor and several relays for $280. Replaced clutch at 51,000 miles, found out they use the same parts as the tdl on the turbo car. Currently have a blown head gasket, more than likely due to the mass air flow sensor and turbo sensor causing issues with the engine. Estimated repair costs $1200.

Purchased new Jetta 1.8T from dealer in 8/00. Have taken it back several times due to check engine light and back firing w/slight hesitation on acceleration. They replaced air filter 8/01, 10/3/01 replaced defective sensor & valve, 2/02 couldn't find reason for continued backfiring, had oil change and reset light. Next couple of times the light came on they said to wait a couple of days --it did go off. 5/03 they performed diag test and reset light. Said if came on again I'd need catalytic converter. 8/13 in shop again for check engine light this time diag test said they should replace the mass air flow sensor & wiring. Told me not under warranty even though the check engine light has been a consistent ongoing problem. Will be calling VW customer care.

Excessive engine oil consumption. He car consumed approximately 1 qt of oil per 1500 mi. Taking into consideration this car had 8 miles when I lease it, and I drive under normal driving conditions this engine oil consumption, for me, is totally unreasonable. If I would not refill the engine oil between oil change intervals (5000 mi), the car would consume 74% of its total engine oil, easily burning its engine. At the dealer suggestion I ended up trading this car yet for another Jetta, also consuming oil.
