Disbelief was the consensus among several mechanics that an alternator would fail on a car at only 38,000 miles. The vehicle had to be towed - the local VW dealer was chosen with the hope that the 36,000 mile warranty would be extended - wrong!! The service staff at the local dealer were both unapologetic and arrogant. OEM was the only option to replace the alternator at a cost of $950 plus labor!! After complaining to VW of America, the best they could do was a $150.00 "discount" off the repair bill. Even after the token discount, the repair cost was still higher than quoted from a local reputable German auto mechanic.
