Before I purchased this vehicle, as I was aware of sunroof leaks being an issue of previous model years, I would sure to do some research and asked whether or not the issue has been resolved for the 2019 model. I was assured that it had. However, I had noticed that occasionally during heavy rain, or afterwards, some water, or drip onto my foot from somewhere inside the steering column. The car had 7000 or so miles when I purchased it, and I was told that it had been a service loaner. I’m curious if it could’ve been a buyback. Regardless, it wasn’t until about a year after I had purchased it I started to smell a musty odor. Eventually it got to be too much to not look into it, and so I took the time to explore and found standing water in the compartment where the spare tire is underneath the trunk floor. Like enough to cover the entire spare tire and I assume it had been sitting there for awhile. Found a rubber stopper underneath the car that allowed us to drain the water from the trunk, clean the rest out with ShopFax and dried it with fans and damp rid.

At the next service I went to I mentioned it to them and they said it would take them too long to look into that and I would have to leave the car overnight. I do know that recently checking the sunroof drains was added by Volkswagen as a service item but I think that might’ve been after that service visit. So I decided I would just eventually figure out a time to get it like that I started looking for a new car because I thought I would try this one and it was too much trouble and I wanted to get another car while I could still register for cover most of the value for my paid for this one because it’s done really good shape with relatively low miles. In the meantime, noticed that it was starting to act up electrically. Sometimes the sensors for side and front collision warning would go off for no reason when nothing was around when I was driving home the airbag light started to awesome sentence come on and the check engine light went on for the coolant temperature sensor or some thing I’m not sure how much of this is related to the water damage but I suspect probably quite a lot.

So recently had it in for 40,000, asked them to look at the center of what her issue was the other things they found a pinched drain and began repairing it under the warranty. They were going to replace the carpet, headliner and other interior elements for water damage, then I got a message from the dealership that is working on it telling me that they found black mold underneath all of the stuff they removed and to tell me to call my insurance company about it I don’t know who’s responsibility. It is to cover that, but I suspect that it’s Volkswagens since they already accepted the warranty claim. Again at no point was I ever informed of this as something to look out for and quite honestly I just don’t know what to do next because I already had planned on trading in the car and now I obviously can’t just do that without remediating the mold issue and even then apparently it is a known issue that never seems to be able to be truly resolved for people. Damn shame since it’s a great car and handles so well in even pretty severe ice and snow. Sigh. Sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors as I used speech to text to write this.
