Bought the little beast as a CPO..... 435 miles away...... which was an epic fail in and of itself. So this fail ( #3 of 3 ) started.... or may have started - you have to make serious allowances given the nature of this well known subject of a Class Action Settlement - and guaranteed failure ( not if just when )..... may have started on 23 MAY 2023/ 43,361 mi. with a dealer recommended and paid for 'Sunroof service' on a roof that 'seemed' just fine ?

Although in retrospect I wonder greatly about when the cracking and leaking actually started. From day one, although sporadically, the car has had unusual front window moisture build ups over night.

Then on 30JAN2024 / 45,954 mi. brought the car in for a 'serious' EM related check engine light - again.

The non solution - 'solution was basically $1083.70 plus 3% for using the VW DRIVE CC / CC in general.

All labor no parts for a sunroof and drain system disassembly and assembly plus removal of the front drain flaps.

I do not drive this one much - especially during winter with approximately 2/3k a year.

But I do remember the next date that matters very very well which was 23MARCH2024. A very rainy day. We went eat and as I was rounding the corner for the parking lot entrance, a veritable water fall erupted from the forward overhead console. Well, parking was covered so we had our meal and then drove home.....during which I became violently ill and then..... into the ER eight hours later followed by shall we say an extended stay and a months long recovery period. I only mention this to cover why time has gone by with this.

On 9MAY2024/ 46,544 ( seventh day I could actually drive again ) Brought the car in for a major Diesel EM check engine light (again) plus other service.

Based on what we experienced over the last 12/18 months with this car - including but not limited to this specific issue - plus our other 2015 TDI Passat..... decided enough is enough, and switched dealers for both TDI s.

Have an appointment for 16 OCTOBER 2024 to fix this plus the now damaged headliner.

The final disappointment with all this is the lack of information or heads up from anybody 'VW' plus no contact or letter when the 'Power Panoramic Sunroof' Class Action was finalized.

VW strung it out long enough that our Golf became too old for the remedy although well under the 70,000 mile limit.

I also think it's total BS that this is not covered under the special Diesel Class Action Settlement Warranty because when the water accumulates in the drivers outer kick panel area, it screws up a bunch of electrical/ electronic Ad -Blue stuff.

And this is the final thing I wonder about because this vehicle has had from early on chronic Ad Blue systems problems.

Sunroof leak on passenger side under visor and along pillar.

I had not noted this problem ever before, other than some staining on the headliner that I noted, but didn't think much about. One the day I noted, I left my car parked outside (it was raining pretty heavy that day), went the gym for about 1 hour, and when I came back I noted the roof was leaking onto the passenger seat and the ceiling had a big wet spot. I called the dealer immediately to try and figure out what the problem was. I went to the VW dealer in Fayetteville, NC, and at first they tried and convince me it was a poor seal from the front windshield. This was because I did have my window replaced about a year before due to a big crack.

I proceeded to go to the autoglass store and they checked for leaks, from seal and there were none, but they did notice there was a backup in the drainage through the pillar. I took back to the dealer and they agreed to take in my car. Turns out there was back up in the drainage so the tubing had to be replaced and some minor additional work had to be done to sunroof. When I picked up the car, the rearview mirror was hanging off the front windshield and the dealer did not agree to fix! That is a separate issue from the sunroof, but I couldn't believe they didn't take responsibility for something that happened to the car, while in their service (I had left the car there for about 2 weeks while I was TDY. Therefore, I went back to autoglass now so they could replace the front windshield again since it was still under warranty.
