2015 TDI had enough problems with the emissions fraud, but I thought, "what auto manufacturer could mess up a diesel engine and a manual transmission"? This technology should have been perfected by now! I brought my Golf in to a private mechanic, not a dealer, with the pedal not fully engaging, (it was letting all the way out). The shop replaced a suspicious hose, then the master cylinder, then a clutch kit and now it is a specialty flywheel that can only be ordered through VW and can not be re-surfaced. I spoke to the schedule guy at the shop who tried to tell me a new clutch at 85k miles was normal, and the owner was much more sympathetic to the issues. I can hardly blame the shop, because it is a failure that seems really unreasonable. Never again VW!
Update from Jan 24, 2020 Speaking with my mechanic, the flywheel and clutch were a 2 piece design, to make it an easier action for people, but it's an obviously faulty design. Gonna go with an aftermarket performance clutch, one piece. Hoping this will give me the life expectancy I desire from this car.
