My "check engine" light came on while driving. A few minutes later the "check engine light" went out and the "airbag light" flickered and then stayed on. Dealership charged me for diagnostic test ($99.50) stated "high resistance in airbag wiring chassis", recommended replacement of wiring chassis and airbag ($650) or I would not be able to pass inspection. They cleared out the codes, in case of computer error, and stated that if the indicator came on again, the repair must be done. While driving home from dealership, airbag indicator did not come on, had state inspection done and passed. Is this a faulty indicator from the onboard computer, a single airbag issue or a multiple airbag issue? Complained to dealership and VW customer service. VW customer service refused to help since warranty is only for 50,000 miles. VW has made the decision to force me to buy an extended warranty ($3,300) on a flawed design. The only way I will know what the real problem is by getting into an accident and pray that the airbags deploy. Had purchased a VW before, lasted me over 10 years with minimal problems. VW is taking notes from American car manufacturers by cutting corners on design. I expect issues from American cars not VW. This is the reason I paid $19,000 for a Golf. Friends with American cars purchased at the same time have yet to repair their cars. VW does not take safety seriously, they are forcing people to buy an extended warranty top cover their errors. VW should hang their heads in shame.
