Driver-side door locking system began cycling (trying to lock) when I would open the door to exit the vehicle once the car was turned off. The steering display was indicating the door was closed, when the drivers door was actually open. In reading complaints about earlier VW models and after talking to an independent VW mechanic, I've determined the door wiring harness at the transition at the door hinge (between the door and the body) is being bent or pinched causing an incomplete circuit. I can actually manipulate the wires at the door hinge with my fingers when the door is open to get the vehicle to show the door is closed.
I've heard of many other similar stories with other door functions failing such as windows or fuel door release. I heard other models that have had recalls for this door wiring harness and from what I can determine my vehicle has roughly the same harness and setup as the recalled vehicles. I plan to order a new harness and replace it since I do not have a recall at this time for my model and year of vehicle. I would however appreciate a parts reimbursement at some point in time.
