On Friday, I ran up to local gas station for ice for dinner party. Went inside and got ice and got back into car. Took all of 3 minutes....but when I got back into car, key could not go into ignition. Something was blocking it. Had to have car towed to my house so I could finish dinner party and then to dealership next morning. Dealership Service tech went to car while I was inside with paperwork and worked his magic. Got key to work but said I need new Ignition cylinder because mine was falling apart and that a piece of it was what was blocking key from being able to be inserted. $400+ was quote for parts and labor. I am already out $150 for towing and rental car will run another $150+ as well. The dealership says part should be here Tuesday and I hope car to be ready by Wednesday.
Anyone else had this problem? As single, older female, I wonder if I am being scammed. Is there another, less expensive, fix?
