The Vehicle is a Caravelle 2.0 litre turbo with a DSG 7 speed gearbox.
It starting using oil at 30k miles it was taking a litre every two fuel tank fills, the oil is going into the oil exchanger unit to the turbo and then being thrown down the exhaust to the DPF filter, at about 55k the DPF filter could no longer perform the re-gen required on its own, as all its sensors where covered in oil, no matter how well you cleaned them, even booking it in to the garage before a long run, the lights were coming on during the run.
The re-gen light on the dash was coming up on Motorway runs when the vehicle was sitting at 2000 revs in 7th Gear at 70 MPH, not when you are doing town driving as when you think it would? stop start traffic and such.
In 2016 we bought a VW Sirocco 2.0 Turbo with a 7 speed DSG gearbox at 30k it started using oil in the same manner as the Caravelle did, we quickly got rid of the Sirocco replaced it with a BMW.
I have contacted Volkswagen Many times and they keep saying there is nothing wrong with the Vehicle, my garage and I and the main dealers beg to differ. The main dealer revealed that Volkswagen were aware of this problem and were changing engines, unfortunately when we asked they had just stopped doing it, the only way I could get it done was to stump up half the cost of £9,000 plus vat.
There was no way I could afford that without being certain it would fix the problem and apparently the engine work did not fix the problem. Then recently I found out there was a court case in America about the same issue. Here Volkswagen agreed to change the engines at 50k but still claim there is nothing wrong with the UK engines, which is rubbish. The oil usage is now bringing up the engine management light on long runs as the vehicle struggles to clear the oil from the DPF filter the Vehicle is only at 70K now. No longer trust it to go anywhere. Love the Vehicle but would I buy or recommend one to someone else, sadly no I wouldn't.
