This is completely unacceptable to have this major of an engine failure on the engine you use across multiple lines. Every engine is just a ticking time bomb of failure. The settlement is also a joke - I will never purchase another Volkswagen and dissuade others from doing so.
We just put a new clutch in this car at the start of March, then the Covid-19 pandemic hit and car sat in driveway for a few weeks. First time my husband went to drive it, wouldn't start, so he jumped it and that worked. Next time he tried, same problem, but could no longer jump it. Had to be towed to mechanic who informed us he believed it was a busted timing chain which led to a bent valve. Total engine replacement to tune of $6000! Got second opinion and it was the same. Contacted local VW dealer and they were no help. Online research has revealed this is a known problem. This is a 2010 car so we will NOT be fixing it. It's outrageous to me that this would happen, car hasn't even hit 100,000 miles. We will end up selling it for scrap. This was our second Volkswagen and also our last, that's for sure.
The cost of the repair and the number of Volkswagen owners who experienced this, it should be taken care of by the dealership without additional cost to the vehicle owners.
