My check engine light came on, 2009 VW CC, a couple weeks ago. I tried driving it but there was no way it was going anywhere, it was running horribly. I had it towed to my mechanic. He ran a diagnostic on it, printed out the report, cleared the errors to help him pin point the failure as there were to many errors. He realized the intake manifold was failing and searched out a replacement. He found my manifold had an extended warranty offered by VW. He contacted VW and they confirmed it was under warranty. He wanted to save me some money, an honest mechanic, and we towed my vehicle to VW. VW could NOT get the 2015 error code to reappear and for this reason VW Corporate refused to honor the extended warranty, After 9 days of battling VW Corporate to honor there warranty, I just decided to pay the $640 repair. This was completed yesterday, the car still doesn't run. The VW mechanic suggested I replace the spark plugs and coils, as they were not going to be available for 4 days do to the holidays. So I did this this morning, $140 for plugs and coils still doesn't run. The mechanic also suggested my timing belt may have failed. A timing belt is more job than I am capable of. I'm continuing my internet research and found I just may need an engine over haul. I might have a blown head gasket or timing belt issue which may have caused my catastrophic engine failure. So this weekend I will tow my vehicle back to my mechanic. That's a total of 3 tow bills, parts and labor totaling $780, and ZERO resolution.

VOLKSWAGON doesn't stand behind their product at all.....how are you going to tell me I need to replace the motor before a 100,000 miles. They have redesigned internal parts and made a once non serviceable timing chain a serviceable part. I already paid approx. 3000 to replace seized balance shafts and all of the timing chains, guides, and tensioner. Now they are saying that the engine needs to be replaced and because of the amount of miles and that it is outside of warranty they will do nothing. So I asked them if what they were telling me was if I were to buy another vw that I should ditch it before the warranty expires....they had no comment.

It is very bad for such a proven automaker to have a car that the valves are paper thin and a known issue in the VW. CC world of these problems and nothing is on a recall list. No warning signs etc.

Update from Feb 24, 2015: The PCV was replaced, was check engine, was on a loud noise from the passenger side of the motor. After that was fixed, maybe a week later, the car starting surging one morning before work and the CEL on again. Got the car to my mechanic to see what the issue was, after pressure testing the engine he noticed only 3 of the 4 valves were moving and found metal shavings and even chucks from one valve. So now need a new motor.
